^w^ The whale shark, a filter feeder, is the largest fish in the ocean. It can grow to forty feet and can weigh 15 tons when fully grown.
^w^ Basking sharks, also filter feeders, are slightly smaller than whale sharks. These sharks are thought to hibernate in deep water in the winter.
^w^ The Greenland Shark, its close relative the Pacific Sleeper Shark, and the Great White Shark can all reach 20 feet at maturity. The Greenland Shark and the Pacific Sleeper Shark are found only in cold waters.
^w^ The Megamouth Shark, first seen in 1976, is a very large shark, but so few have been seen that little is known about its lifestyle.
